Exhibition Workshop, Kassel

Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer eines Ausstellungsworkshops im Gespräch – Konzeptentwicklung mit Dr. Martin Gebhardt für das Forum Wissen Kassel

Developing an Exhibition Concept for Doctoral Candidates

Working with the DFG Research Group “Understanding Social Relationships” at the University of Göttingen and the German Primate Center, we developed an exhibition concept in collaboration with Forum Wissen. To achieve this, we held dedicated exhibition workshops with the university’s doctoral students.
The core challenge was simple yet profound: How can specialized research projects best be presented to a broad public? Which themes are visually compelling, and how can we tell engaging stories within an exhibition space? We also explored the critical logistical and strategic aspects of exhibition design. Together with the students and the Forum Wissen curatorial team, we co-created concepts, thematic zones, and initial implementation ideas. Our mission was to highlight the connections between humans and primates while translating complex research into meaningful, accessible narratives.

3 Key Learnings:

  • Exhibiting research is exciting: putting specific questions into a broader context and making them generally understandable
  • Cooperation: the collaboration between the museum team and the Research Training Group was beneficial because everyone was pulling in the same direction
  • Time factor: time investment is crucial for the success of the overall task, especially in projects outside of daily research work
